In 1931 is created the Hispanic-Moroccan highschool in Ceuta, cradle of secondary education in our city. Later, in the fifties, is called National Institute of Medium Education unfolding in part in two highschools: male and female. In the late seventies male high school becomes the mixed Nº 1 Highschool moving to the current building in 1985, acquiring the name of IES Abyla during 1995/96 (Abyla was the name given to the Carthaginians to Ceuta in the V century BC.).
